Business Technology Education

 

The Business Technology Education Program consists of the following components:

 

Accounting Operations
Program Description: This program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills expanding the traditional role of the Bookkeeper and Accounting Assistant. The content includes manual and computerized methods using double entry accounting principles. It also includes method of recording business transactions; reparation and analysis of various documents and financial statements; payroll records and tax forms; accounting control systems; account and transactional analysis; inventory methods; the aging process depreciation, and the application of accounting principles to various entities.

The students learn the fundamentals of commuter technology and learn how to use spreadsheet software (Excel) and computerized accounting programs (QuickBooks, Pro Peachtree)

The course/program also provides supplemental training for persons previously or currently enrolled in these occupations.
 

Entrance Requirements:
    • 16 years or older and not currently enrolled in another Miami-Dade County Public School and occupational interest
Length of Program:
    • The entire program is 900 hours (Approximately 1 year) but students can earn a certificate at the completion of OCPs
       
      • OCP A:      (Information Technology Assistant)

Business Systems Technology, 150 hours

      • OCP B:      (Accounting Clerk)

      • OCP C:      (Bookeeper)

      • OCP D:      (Accounting Assistant)

Class Schedule:

8:00 am - 2:00 pm, Monday - Friday

Minimum basic skills grade levels required for awarding a Full Program Completion Certificate are 9th grade in Math, Reading and Language on the TABE Test.

Administrative Assistant
Program Description: The program includes the use of technology to develop communication skills, higher level thinking skills, and decision-making skills. The traditional role of Administrative Assistant is expanded with the performance of office procedures and tasks such as organizing meetings, preparing presentations, filing, global communication, records managements, scheduling, reprographics, word processing, accounting, desktop publishing and mail handling.

Student will be able to produce high quality work in an efficient manner using advance features of business software applications, using Microsoft Office Premium Edition (includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook) and electronic communication (e.g. Internet, on-line databases and e-mail); research of job opportunities; and the production of high quality employment portfolios and job seeking documents.

The course/program also provides supplemental training for persons previously or currently enrolled in these occupations.
 

Entrance Requirements:
    • 16 years or older and not currently enrolled in another Miami-Dade County Public School and occupational interest

    • The entire program is 1050 hours (Approximately 1 year) but students can earn a certificate at the completion of OCPs
       
      • OCP A:      (Information Technology Assistant) 150 hours

      • OCP C:      (Assistant Digital Production Designer) 150 hours

8:00 am - 2:00 pm, Monday - Friday
