ADULT GENERAL EDUCATION

 

Adult general education courses are designed to improve educational opportunities for adults who lack the level of literacy skills needed for effective citizenship and productive employment.  Instruction is always based on the needs of the individual student.  Students may perform at different levels and progress at different rates, depending upon ability, achievement and learning goals.

 

Entrance Requirements

 

q       Basic skills testing for appropriate placement

q    16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in another Miami-Dade County Public School

 

Length of Program

 

¨      ABE – No specific length.  Student will exit program when he/she reaches 8.9 on the TABE test.

 

Computer Lab:

Students enrolled in the ABE, ESOL or GED program have access to computer assisted instruction.  The lab helps the student reinforce the necessary skills.

 

ADULT BASIC EDUCATION

(ABE)

 

The purpose of ABE courses is to provide basic literacy and life skills for adults. The content includes reading, language arts, writing and mathematics.  Students are placed in each class according to their assessments.
