MAJOR APPLIANCE AND REFRIGERATION REPAIR
Program’s Mission Statement
The Major Appliance and Refrigeration Repair Program is dedicated to providing knowledge and skills that will produce the highest quality training for the current and future needs of the Major Appliance and Refrigeration Industry.
In addition, the Major Appliance and Refrigeration Technology Program has two very unique training programs. The Robert Morgan Educational Center Maytag Customer Service (RMEC/MCS) Program enables students to diagnose, prepare estimates, order parts, and prepare NARDA invoices while making repairs on Maytag products. The Whirlpool Corporation Southeast Regional Training Center trains students on refrigeration, laundry, cooking, cleanup, specialty, basic electricity, and customer service skills. Training includes hands-on, tear-down, and diagnostic techniques.
Program Content
Students in this program will learn operational and electrical theory, troubleshooting techniques, repair and maintenance of refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, ice makers, washers, dryers (gas and electric), dishwashers, compactor, ranges (gas and electric), and microwave ovens. Content also includes customer relations, record-keeping, basic supervisory skills, use and care of hand tools, power tools, specialized tools and equipment, and use of current industry standards, practices and techniques.
The course/Program also provides supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in these occupations.
Entrance Requirements
¹ 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in another Miami-Dade County Public School. ¹ Occupational Interest
Length of Program
The entire program is 1500 hours, but students can earn a certificate at the completion of the following OCP’s:
OCP A (Appliance Assistant) 300 hours OCP B (Laundry Technician) 300 hours OCP C (Kitchen Technician) 450 hours OCP D (Refrigeration Technician) 450 hours
Minimum basic-skills grade levels required for awarding a Full Program Completion Certificate are 9th grade in Math, Reading, and Language on the TABE Test

Salary
In 2004, the median hourly salary range was from $14.27 to $17.01.
